On August 28, 2019, the naming and handover ceremony of the world's second 308,000dwt intelligent VLCC built by DSIC for China Merchants Energy Shipping of China Merchants Group was held in Dalian. This VLCC, which combines the most advanced design concepts and excellent construction technology in the world today, is named "New Hailiao" to commemorate "Hailiao" ship in the uprising on the eve of the founding of new China. Li Jianhong, chairman of China Merchants Group, attended the ceremony and named the new vessel. Cai Jianshu, the medalist of National Labor Medal and captain of China Changjiang National Shipping Group, cut the cable for the vessel. Fu Gangfeng, general manager of China Merchants Group, Wu Yongjie, deputy secretary of Party Committee and general manager of CSIC, and He Jiwu, deputy general manager of CSIC attended the ceremony.
Important Inheritance of Glorious History
As the saying “Common destiny with motherland and development together with times”, the whole 147-year history of China Merchants Group is a history of development that is closely related to the fate of our motherland and nation. On September 19, 1949, "Hailiao" ship of China Merchants Bureau broke through kuomintang's heavy blockade on the sea and finally reached Dalian Port in the liberated area after 8 days and 9 nights, becoming the first sea ship of new China to raise the five-star red flag. At that time the successful uprising caused so great response at home and abroad that Chairman Mao Zedong sent a telegram to praise and encourage "Hailiao", and the picture of this ship was printed on the right side of the front of new China 5-cent note. Under the influence and inspiration of "Hailiao" uprising, Hong Kong Merchants Bureau uprising broke out in 1950. 13 sea ships and more than 700 seamen broke away from kuomintang without hesitation, making indelible historical contributions to the initiation and development of shipping industry in new China. The spirit of "Hailiao" in pursuit of brightness and ideals inspires generations of staff in China Merchants Group to go forward bravely and make good achievements. After the founding of new China, China Merchants Bureau continued its historical voyage, and made many landmark and leading achievements. Especially since the 18th National Congress, China Merchants Group has persisted in reform and innovation, overcome difficulties, and constantly achieved leapfrog development. In 2018, China Merchants Group reached a new high in all economic indicators. Its total profit, net profit and total assets ranked the first among the state-owned enterprises , and now it has become a group with two top 500 in the world. On the 70th anniversary of "Hailiao" uprising, the "New Hailiao" set out from Dalian and started a new voyage in the new historical period.
Important Achievements of "Intelligent Ships"
China Merchants Group is an important strategic partner of CSIC. The two sides have maintained close cooperative relations and achieved fruitful results in many projects. Up to now, the headquarter of DSIC has undertaken 26 large ship orders from China Merchants Energy Shipping, including two 110,000dwt refined oil tankers, five 180,000dwt bulk carriers and 19 VLCCs. At present, 25 vessels have been delivered, and 1 VLCC under construction is scheduled to be completed in November 2019. "New Hailiao" vessel is a high-quality project carefully organized and constructed by China Merchants Energy Shipping and DSIC, and a landmark ship of "Intelligent ship 1.0 special research and development project". The successful development and smooth delivery of large intelligent crude oil carriers not only add cutting-edge products of science and technology to CMS, but also have a milestone significance in the development process of intelligent ships, and also represent the new advantages of DSIC in the construction of super-large crude oil carriers.
By constructing the network information platform of intelligent service system, "New Hailiao" vessel has realized five intelligent functions, namely, automatic navigation assistance, intelligent liquid cargo management, comprehensive energy efficiency management, equipment operation and maintenance, and integrated ship-shore communication. It is the second VLCC in the world after "Kaizheng", which was awarded the class symbol of i-ship (I, N, M, Et, C,) and OMBO by CCS.
On "New Hailiao" vessel, the intelligent liquid cargo management system not only realizes centralized monitoring of liquid cargo related systems, but also provides effective auxiliary operation decisions through data mining and analysis, providing the crew with the optimal stowage operation scheme. At the same time, as a practical application project of super large crude oil tanker, which carries out top-level design of intelligent ships and puts forward overall planning in China, "New Hailiao" vessel has built a network link of intelligent communication between ship and shore, realizing the exchange and sharing of big data between ships and shore. It can fully meet the requirements of shore-based remote management and control of ship navigation, liquid cargo management, equipment operation and maintenance, energy efficiency management, etc.. In addition, "New Hailiao" vessel has also completed the real ship verification for the decision-making function of auxiliary collision avoidance in open water, which lays a reliable technical foundation for the realization of autonomous collision avoidance of ships in the next step.
Important messenger of " The Belt And Road Initiative"
Shipping industry is the bridge and link of international trade. At present, more than 90% of the global merchandise trade freight volume is accomplished by shipping. The total length of "New Hailiao" vessel is about 330 meters, the width is 60 meters, the maximum draft is 21.5 meters, and the designed speed is 15.7 nautical miles per hour. The delivery of the vessel will further expand the business strength of the tanker fleet for China Merchants Energy Shipping. So far, China Merchants Energy Shipping that operates 52 VLCCs is the largest shipowner of VLCC in the world. In addition, China Merchants Energy Shipping also has the world's largest VLOC fleet, domestic leading LNG and ro-ro fleet. Through the development of " tankers, bulk carriers, gas carriers and special ships " full formats transport business, it continuously strengthens cooperation with overseas and domestic enterprises, and provides a full range of comprehensive logistics supply chain services, which actively promotes connectivity among countries and regions all the way along, and continuously injects new impetus to the construction of " the belt and road initiative".
