“YUAN RUI YANG”, the first worldwide liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered VLCC independently developed, designed and built by DSIC of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, fully embodies the latest achievements of high-quality development and technological self-reliance of DSIC.
From September 27 to December 31, 2022, the "Forging Ahead in a New Era" themed achievement exhibition was grandly held at Beijing Exhibition Center. During the exhibition, the big model of “YUAN RUI YANG”, the first worldwide liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered VLCC, attracted many visitors to stop and watch, listen to explanations, ask about relevant information, and get a glimpse of the super giant. As the only product selected for shipbuilding industry in the China Manufacturing Exhibition Area, the ship was successfully selected by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China, and was displayed on site in the form of physical model.
During the preliminary planning and exhibition period, DSIC attached great importance to and carefully organized the exhibition, fully cooperated with the exhibition work, successfully completed various tasks, and obtained high recognition from the superior units. The Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology have sent letters of thanks, highly praising DSIC for full support and hard work in the exhibition, and thanked for the positive contributions to the exhibition.

Recently, in 2022 "World Famous Ships of the Year" list released by the international renowned ship magazine Maritime Reporter & Engineering News, a total of 13 new ships were listed, with“YUAN RUI YANG” among them, demonstrating once again the extraordinary strength of China's shipbuilding industry.
Ship profile
This ship was delivered in DSIC in February 2022. With design length of 333 meters, molded width of 60 meters and molded depth of 30.5 meters, “YUAN RUI YANG” uses LNG as the main fuel and is equipped with LNG dual fuel main engine, generator and boiler. It is classified as single CCS class. It has been awarded additional marks such as Natural Gas Fuel, Intelligent Energy Efficiency i-Ship (E), Green Ship I, and NOx Emission Control NEC (III). The LNG storage system on ship is designed with two C-type 3500 cubic meters of cryogenic LNG storage tanks with fully independent intellectual property rights. The ship has achieved cost reduction and increased efficiency through LNG dual fuel, hydrodynamic and general layout optimization, efficient coordination of ship engines and propellers, and the first application of corrosion resistant steel instead of PSPC coating protection for cargo tanks. Its comprehensive energy-saving and performance indicators are among leading level in the world.
The high-quality and successful construction of “YUAN RUI YANG” marks a breakthrough made by China State Shipbuilding Corporation in the field of large-scale clean energy powered ships technology, and also indicates that DSIC has taken the forefront in the world in green, environmental protection and energy-saving of large oil tankers. It has played a positive demonstration and leading role in promoting the implementation of the goal of "carbon peak and carbon neutrality" in shipping industry, with milestone significance. |
