On August 4, the VLCC and Suezmax tanker R&D and design schemes with CO2 capture and storage system developed by DSIC, the subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation(CSSC), in cooperation with COSCO Shipping Energy Transportation Corporation, were approved in principle by CCS, DNV and ABS classification societies respectively.

Based on green and low-carbon cooperation, the two sides have achieved remarkable results in 2022: not only successfully delivered and operated the first worldwide LNG fueled VLCC, but also cooperated to complete the concept design of methanol fueled VLCC, and obtained the AIP certificate from the classification society. The design of the ship with carbon capture system is another R&D cooperation led by the two sides to achieve the goal of "emission peak, carbon neutrality" in shipping, and continuously contributes to "zero carbon" future of shipping industry.
